There’s nothing else to praise our city of Guilin, but one famous saying goes “Ease or west, Guilin landscape is Best.” One can not say his visit to China is complete without coming to Guilin. Guilin is a world-famous scenic city, an important international tourist destination, and a holy land of human civilization for more than two thousand years. Formally known as Bagui or Guizhou in Chinese, Guilin literally means a forest of Osmanthus trees.
It is a mountainous and hilly area and typical karst landform, the limestone mountains throughout this area is formed by weathering and erosion in hundreds of millions of years. With a total area of 27,800 square kilometers and a permanent resident population of over 5.3 million, its beautiful natural landscape and local culture make it very popular with travelers from both home and abroad. Due to its unique land formation, there are lots of walk trails which had been developed and used since the ancient time, which makes Guilin and its surrounded areas, such as Yangshuo and Longsheng, just ideal for hiking.
